In the late 1960's John L. Grove, with his wife Cora started out on a cross country excursion in their RV. Newly retired, after spending numerous years working with his brother to assemble their crane company into an market leader, John had no idea that fateful trip would permit JLG Industries, Inc to emerge. The world leader of mobile aerial work platforms and precision materials handling equipment was the end consequence of a road expedition.
Whilst on their trip, John spent time conversing with past business associates whom the Groves stopped to visit along the way. These conversations combined with a tragic occurrence two workers being electrocuted on scaffolding when the Groves were visiting Hoover Dam John discovered a vast market for a product that could swiftly and safely lift people in the air to accomplish maintenance and other building services.
Following their return from holiday, John set up a business with two of his friends and purchased a metal fabrication business in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania. Starting with a small crew of twenty personnel, they produced and sold their first JLG aerial work platform in 1970. The company incorporates some of the basic design essentials of that original lift into current versions.
Since then, JLG Forklifts have come a great distance from when Mr. John L. Grove came back from his fatefull cross-country journey and since the first JLG aerial platform entered the market. As of today, the company has expanded itself into many different global marketplaces and continues to develop new machinery to ensure that customers are able to become safer and more resourceful within their workplace.
