Langley Crane Operator Classes - For the operators and the supervisors, new and current, the crane operator training course is suitable for all. Course content includes relevant state, federal and provincial safety regulations. The first component of training comprises comprehensive in-class lessons and exam. After that is a hands-on customized session with practical instruction and assessment.
The content of the course applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting crane devices. The instruction would specifically focus on all aspects of crane operation that can be performed at the trainee's workplace. Upon completion of the course, individuals training would learn how to operate specific overhead lifting machines, attachments and related components in a safe and efficient manner.
The operator course's goal is to first identify and potentially dangerous operator habits which could develop when a person operates an overhead crane. Costly damage to equipment and products could be prevented with right habits. Training reduces the chance of a workplace injury or incident taking place.
The duration of the course is eight hours of classroom instruction followed by a few hours of on-site, hands-on, customized training. Participants are graded on their knowledge of training material through an evaluation of their practical knowledge and written testing. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.
The in-class session, the trainee would learn regarding guidelines and legislation, causes of occurrences and damages, internal responsibility, hazard awareness, design principles and basic equipment, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, pre-shift equipment inspections, safe hoisting/operating methods, types of hardware, equipment applications/rigging, hitches and angles, operator/pedestrian safety, flipping/turning loads safely, hand signals for slingers and operators.
The customized practical training and evaluation session should be pre-scheduled. It would be held at the trainees' facility following completion of the in-class session. The duration of this practical training part is one to two hours. The instructor would train two operators at a time on skills like planning the lift, right rigging practices and safe operation.
After finishing both the practical training and evaluation and the in-class instruction, the trainee will be tested via an exam. Each participant would be needed to sign the safety rules. Trainees who are successful will be provided with individual wallet certificates. A framed wall certificate would be provided to the company.
